Rip currents are the greatest hazard to swimmers at surf beaches.

Rip currents can pull even the strongest swimmer out to sea and can move faster than an Olympic swimmer.

Lifesaving crew plunging into the water for rescue operation.

Follow these life-saving tips:

Know how to swim.

Swim at a lifeguard-protected beach.

If you get caught in a rip current:

Stay Calm!

Don’t fight the current.

DON’T FIGHT THE CURRENT

Escape by swimming in a direction following the shoreline.

When free, swim at an angle towards shore.
