August 17, 2000 — NOAA's National Climatic Data Center in Asheville, N.C., has released a report describing the climate of Sydney, Australia, site of this year's Olympic Games in September.

The report provides a detailed climatology for Sydney, including data tables, maps, and a narrative description. The mean high temperature for September in Sydney is 68 F with a mean low temperature of 50 F, and mean monthly rainfall of 2.2 inches. The report includes much more detailed statistics for September and the remainder of the year, such as daily and monthly extremes, average wind speeds, and frequency distributions of various types of weather.

The report is available on NOAA's National Climatic Data Center Web site. Click on "In the Spotlight." Then choose "Australian Olympic Climatology Report."
