NOAA UPDATED NEW MEXICO FIRE COLOR COMPOSITE SATELLITE IMAGES
ONLINE
May 11, 2000 NOAA's Operational Significant Event
Imagery support team
has created several multichannel color composite images showing
the serious fire situation occurring just west of Los Alamos,
New Mexico. The fires have resulted in large scale evacuations
from the surrounding area, including the entire town of Los Alamos.
Fire has spread to the Los Alamos National Laboratory grounds.
Some of this imagery can be
found on the OSEI
Media Resource page.
Scroll to the bottom to find links to a NOAA-15 AVHRR satellite
image from Wednesday evening. The latest imagery can also be
found in the "Current"
directory accessible from the front page of our Web site (http://www.osei.noaa.gov/).
Images of these fires are those
with "usNM" in the filename. Each of these also begins
with one of the following prefixes based on the phenomena shown
on the image:
FSMHS = Smoke and hot spots
FSM = Smoke
