FEDERAL AGENCY UNVEILS INNOVATIVE E.S.A. SALMON RULES
NOAA's Fisheries Service unveiled its 4(d) rules to protect 14 populations on salmon and
steelhead form California's Central Valley to Washington's Puget Sound. This new rule institutes
the most significant innovation in how the Endangered Species Act is implemented since it began
listing West Coast salmon in 1991.

AGREEMENT REACHED ON THUNDER BAY NATIONAL MARINE SANCTUARY AND UNDERWATER PRESERVE
A nationally significant collection of shipwrecks in Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary
and Underwater Preserve in Alpena, Mich., will be protected by an agreement reached by NOAA's
Office of Ocean and Coastal Resource Management and Michigan Governor John Engler.
